We plan to tell all our dog-owner friends about this place AND we hope to be back for Spring wildflowers. A couple of cottage "crises" were handled quickly and efficiently by the owners and the many dog owners there seemed very pleased with the surroundings, as did their dogs. Hiked the Pierce Pt trail out to the elk herds, saw the elphant seal pups out by Chimney Rock near the lighthouse and wandered around the trails at the Pt.

We saved lots of money eating in (including a New Year's eve meal of cracked crab and drawn butter!) and could spend more time in the hot tub- mornings and evenings. The new gas heaters and docking speakers for our IPOD were in use the 3 days we were there as was the small but quite adequate kitchenette. Smitty's Cottage is at true gem.Spent New Years 2008-2009, our 20th anniversary (we are a lesbian couple ages 56 and 73) in the Garden Cottage only a few steps from the pool and hot tub. It was sparkling clean when I arrived, the staff was helpful and answered all my questions in advance, and there was a dispenser of sanitizer on the wall, a bottle of bleach cleaning solution, and a package of wipes available to use when I arrived (and throughout my stay). The couch is comfy but small enough that two people could sit side by side but not stretch out on it together, and since I spent most of my time lazing around on that couch it was hard to imagine that being comfortable with another person.įinally, the cottage felt very covid safe. It's advertised as sleeping two, which it could since the bed is large enough, but I think it might feel a tad cramped with two people unless you're going to be out and about most of the time. I stayed at Smitty's by myself, and it was absolutely perfect for a solo stay. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen fully stocked, and the bathroom clean. The couch + fire place + fantastic view combo are the star of the show, but the cottage's other features are excellent, too. It was so comfortable that I had to bribe myself a bit to get out every day for a hike. I spent most of my time on the couch, with the fire going and a soft blanket, reading, which was absolutely divine. There's a very comfy leather couch in front of the gas fireplace, facing the French doors out to the private deck that overlooks the bay and foothills beyond.

These features, plus the fact that its view is of Tomales Bay and the green pastures on the other side, made it feel like a private little hideaway. The cottage is located next door to two others and next to the main road, but is separated from the road by a high fence and some landscaping, and from the other cottages by privacy walls. The location is a short drive from Point Reyes Station and Inverness, so it's convenient to stores and restaurants, but it felt very secluded. I stayed at Smitty's Cottage by myself for two nights and it was a dream.
